Who We Are

Our Camp’s History:

Camp Bluebonnet began in 1990, when a group of women from Texas concerned with the education of girls decided to provide them with a unique opportunity to enjoy their summer vacations as well as grow in the virtues necessary for a happy and wholesome life. The summer of 1991 saw the birth of “Camp” at Featherock Conference Center in Schulenburg, Texas, with 42 campers and 10 counselors/senior staff.

The number of campers grew steadily, quickly outgrowing the facility. In 1997 the camp moved to a site in Hunt, Texas at which point “Camp” became Camp Bluebonnet. Word spread, Camp Bluebonnet kept growing, and in 2002 moved to its current location in Huntsville, Texas with 128 campers and 40 counselors/senior staff. In 2010, former campers, counselors and staff gathered at Featherock to celebrate our 20-year anniversary.

Many campers have returned as counselors. Grateful for what they received during their summers over the years, they continue to share the vision opened up to them at a young age.

Camp Bluebonnet is a unique one week program of character building, sports, recreation, and the arts. In this welcoming environment of trust and adventure, it offers a well-rounded and well-organized curriculum and the personal attention of a dedicated staff.

Camp Bluebonnet is a 501c3 nonprofit organization open to all girls entering 5th – 8th grades, regardless of race, creed, or ethnic background.

The Staff

Camp directors and staff have been carefully selected for their qualities as role models for the campers. They share the ideals of Camp Bluebonnet and are dedicated to the personal growth and welfare of each camper.

The camp directors are assisted by a staff of college and high school counselors selected for their proven leadership skills.

“This has been the most intense spiritual experience of my life. The demands of service and self-giving all day with my campers was really an eye-opener.”     Mary Teresa, counselor
