In 1990, a group of women (mothers and educators) from across Texas got together to talk about their concerns for the education of girls. They wanted to provide a forum in which girls could enjoy their summer vacations as well as grow in the virtues necessary for a happy and wholesome life. The summer of 1991 saw the birth of "Camp" at Featherock Conference Center in Schulenberg, Texas, with 42 campers and 10 counselors/senior staff.

The number of campers grew steadily, quickly outgrowing the facility. In 1997 the camp moved to a facility in Hunt, Texas at which point "Camp" became Camp Bluebonnet. By 1999, Camp Bluebonnet had 89 campers and 20 counselors/senior staff. Camp Bluebonnet applied for and received nonprofit status (501c3). Word spread, Camp Bluebonnet kept growing, and in 2002 moved to its current location in Huntsville, Texas. Many of the first campers in our pioneer stages have now returned as counselors. Grateful for what they received during their summers over the years, they now share the vision opened up to them at a young age.

Camp Bluebonnet is open to all girls entering 5th-8th grades, regardless of race, creed, or ethnic background.

High goals. Lasting Friendships. Dedicated guidance. Young girls need them. Camp Bluebonnet aims at providing girls with all three. Designed by parents, educators, and other professionals, Camp Bluebonnet motivates young girls to use their talents in order to lead and serve others at home, school, and in the community.
